VILLEROY & BOCH EXPERIENCE CENTER OLD ABBEY – METTLACH
With the acquisition of the former Benedictine abbey in 1809, Jean-François Boch laid the foundation for advanced ceramics production in the region. Since 1842, the old abbey has been the headquarters of the international Villeroy & Boch Group.
In the park of the old abbey, during a walk, you will find, besides rare exotic trees, the oldest sacral building of the Greater Region, the old tower with an octagonal plan. The over 1000 year old building was built as a burial chapel for St. Luitwinus and extensively restored in recent years.
At the moment, unfortunately, the experience center / Keravision can not be visited due to reconstruction. The new opening is in December 2024 and regardless of this, the Villeroy & Boch outlet can be visited for a purchase.
UNESCO WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE SITE VÖLKLINGER HUT
The Völklingen Ironworks World Cultural Heritage Site is the only ironworks in the world from the heyday of industrialization that has been completely preserved. It is one of the most unusual UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Short bike tours for pleasure cyclists
This short round trip leads from Saarburg to Konz and back. It is known as the Tälchen-Tour and you cycle through wine villages, through the romantic Mannebach valley, past the nature reserve Wiltinger Saarbogen and along the Saar cycle path. The Saar Family Circuit starts at the Merzig Sports & Leisure Park. It runs along the Saar River, which is crossed at the Rehlingen barrage. The route passes other recreational facilities such as the soccer golf course and the Saargarten as well as the Bietzener Heilquelle and finally ends back at the Merzig Sport & Leisure Park. Due to the low gradient, this bike tour, as the name suggests, is especially suitable for families.
From the Saar near Rehlingen via Siersburg to France and via Niedaltdorf back to the starting point. Not for nothing is this bike path considered one of the most beautiful in the Saarland. Via Völklingen and Saarlouis you finally reach Rehlingen. Here, from the tower of the Siersburg, you have a magnificent view of the valleys of the Saar and Nied.
Discover the green sides of the capital of Saarland. Easy half-day tour on green paths along the Saar and through parks over to St. Arnual.
